Elton John has recently shared his challenges in experiencing his new musical, “The Devil Wears Prada,” due to vision loss from a severe eye infection. Speaking at the opening night of the musical at London’s Dominion Theatre, which also served as a charity gala for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, he expressed his struggles with sight.

At 77, John mentioned that he has been unable to attend many previews of the show because of his limited vision, stating, “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews… it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it and it quite sounded good tonight.” He disclosed that he has been dealing with a “severe eye infection” since September, leaving him with restricted vision in one eye. Although he affirmed that healing is underway, he noted that full recovery will take some time.

During an interview with “Good Morning America,” John expressed optimism about his recovery, despite his current limitations. “There’s hope and encouragement that I will recover,” he commented, acknowledging the difficulties he faces in reading lyrics or watching performances.

Despite these challenges, John’s creativity continues to shine. He composed the score for “The Devil Wears Prada,” a musical adaptation of the popular 2006 film, which is rooted in the story of a young journalist balancing the pressures of the fashion industry. Additionally, he is set to release a documentary titled “Elton John: Never Too Late” on December 13. Earlier this year, he achieved EGOT status after winning an Emmy for his outstanding variety special.

While Elton John’s current health issues are challenging, his resilient spirit and continued contributions to music and the arts provide a glimmer of hope. His journey reflects the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, and fans eagerly await his future projects.
