Elton John, the renowned pop star, shared his emotional struggle after attending the musical “The Devil Wears Prada” at the Dominion Theatre in London, where he experienced considerable difficulty seeing due to a recent eye infection. During a charity gala for the Elton John AIDS Foundation on the musical’s opening night, he informed attendees about his health, stating, “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it, and it sounded good tonight.”
At 77 years old, John revealed in September that he has been suffering from a “severe eye infection” that has left him with limited vision in one eye. Although he expressed optimism regarding his recovery, he acknowledged that the healing process would take time. In a previous interview, he noted, “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” but remains hopeful and encouraged about his future improvement.
Despite retiring from touring in 2023, John still contributes creatively and has written the score for “The Devil Wears Prada,” a musical adaptation of the 2006 film inspired by the novel by Lauren Weisberger. In addition to the theatrical production, viewers can anticipate his documentary, “Elton John: Never Too Late,” which will be released on December 13. This year, John also achieved the prestigious EGOT status after winning an Emmy for outstanding variety special (live) for his farewell concert at Dodger Stadium.
Elton John’s resilience demonstrates his dedication to both his craft and his cause, inspiring many with his ability to find joy and creativity even amidst personal challenges. As he navigates this tough period, fans remain hopeful for his recovery and look forward to his future projects.
