Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk recently expressed his distress over his estranged transgender daughter’s transition, claiming it had a detrimental effect on their relationship. In an interview with Jordan Peterson, Musk labeled gender-affirming surgeries as “child mutilation and sterilization” and stated that his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, received gender-affirming care during the pandemic after coming out as transgender at the age of 16.
Musk indicated that he felt misled into consenting to his daughter’s transition, particularly during a confusing time exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. He mentioned concerns about his child’s mental health at that time, which contributed to his decision-making. Musk, who is a father of 12, further commented that the procedures often occur for children who are not of the legal age to consent, agreeing with Peterson’s assertion that such actions are “incredibly evil.”
He went on to claim that he was not properly informed about the implications of puberty blockers, which he described as sterilization drugs, although medical information indicates that puberty blockers do not directly affect fertility.
In light of California’s new AB1955 legislation, which aims to protect transgender children’s rights in schools, Musk announced that his companies, including X and SpaceX, would relocate to Texas. He has been under scrutiny for his comments and actions viewed as promoting anti-trans sentiments, particularly in the context of his relationship with his daughter, who sought to sever ties with him, stating she no longer wishes to be associated with him.
Musk’s recent political alignment has shifted towards right-wing viewpoints, significantly diverging from his previously moderate positions. He has openly supported the Republican presidential candidates, including former President Donald Trump, and has taken firm stances against clean energy initiatives.
