Elon Musk Shocks with SpaceX and X Headquarters Move

Elon Musk Announces Move of SpaceX and X Headquarters from California to Texas

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to relocate the headquarters of SpaceX and social media company X from California to Texas.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Musk stated that SpaceX will move from Hawthorne, California, to its rocket launch site, known as Starbase, in Texas. Additionally, X’s headquarters will relocate from San Francisco to Austin.

Musk cited a newly signed California law that prohibits school districts from requiring staff to inform parents about their child’s gender identification change as the “final straw” prompting the move.

“I made it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws like this would drive families and businesses out of California to protect their children,” Musk wrote.

In 2021, Tesla, where Musk serves as CEO, moved its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Austin. Musk has also personally relocated his residence from California to Texas, which has no state personal income tax.

SpaceX constructs and launches its large Starship rockets from Boca Chica Beach at the southern tip of Texas, near the Mexican border, at a site called Starbase. The company’s smaller Falcon 9 rockets are launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and Southern California.
