Chase Elliott secured the pole position for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover Motor Speedway thanks to persistent rain that cancelled the scheduled practice and qualifying sessions on Saturday. This marks a notable moment as this July race is the first held at Dover since its inaugural event in 1969.
Elliott has a strong history at Dover, boasting two victories and ten top-five finishes in just 14 career races on this track. Following him on the starting grid are Chase Briscoe in second place, Christopher Bell in third, Tyler Reddick in fourth, and William Byron rounding out the top five. The remaining top ten includes Shane van Gisbergen, Michael McDowell, Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs, and Kyle Busch.
In a historic milestone, Joey Logano will achieve his 600th career start on Sunday, making him the youngest driver in NASCAR history to reach this mark at 35 years and a little over a month, surpassing the previous record held by the legendary Richard Petty.
Additionally, the midseason tournament with a prize of $1 million pits Ty Dillon against John Hunter Nemechek and Reddick against Gibbs in a head-to-head competition at Dover, with the winning drivers set to face off next week in Indianapolis. All four participants are currently seeking their first wins of the season, and Reddick has been named the favorite to clinch the overall tournament victory by sportsbooks.
This race not only provides thrilling competition but also presents new opportunities for drivers looking to break through in their seasons.
