Former Fiji 7s player Eminoni Nasilasila has been ruled ineligible to participate in the Skipper Cup final for the Malolo Rugby Club due to violations of the competition’s Terms of Participation. Despite being named among the players on Malolo’s team list released earlier, Nasilasila had not participated in any club matches nor is he registered with Malolo.
Before the final match, he joined the Malolo team for warm-up, but the Match Commissioner reminded both him and the Malolo manager of the eligibility requirements. As a result, when the Fiji Rugby Union distributed the confirmed team lists shortly before the game, Nasilasila’s name was absent, ensuring adherence to the rules of the competition.
Concerns were also raised regarding Nasilasila’s match fitness, as other players on the team had been actively competing for over two months. The situation highlights the complexities of team regulations and the importance of compliance for all players, particularly in high-stakes matches like a final.
This development adds a layer of intrigue to the Skipper Cup final, as Malolo prepares to face Naitasiri in a historic match that marks their first appearance in the final of this prestigious tournament. The upcoming clash at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva generates excitement, with both teams aiming to achieve their respective goals—Malolo aspiring to secure a title for the first time while Naitasiri seeks to end a 15-year title drought.
Malolo’s journey to the final has already been inspiring, illustrating a remarkable comeback to competitive rugby after a lengthy absence, energizing both their players and the community. The atmosphere surrounding the final is charged with hope as fans rally behind their teams, promising an unforgettable rugby experience.
