A police complaint was lodged against RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav regarding a matter involving two different Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Advocate Rajiv Ranjan filed the complaint at the Digha Police Station in Patna on Monday, although no case has been registered yet.
This incident follows a notice issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to Yadav after discovering discrepancies in his EPIC numbers. According to the ECI, Yadav’s name is officially listed at serial number 416 of polling station No. 124, associated with the EPIC number RAB0456228. However, during a press conference, Yadav referred to a different EPIC number, RAB2916120, which the commission confirmed does not exist in their records.
Earlier, Yadav claimed that his EPIC number had been altered and asserted that his name was excluded from Bihar’s draft electoral rolls. Nevertheless, the Election Commission countered his allegations, emphasizing that he utilized the valid EPIC number (RAB0456228) in his 2020 nomination affidavit and that his name is indeed present in the draft electoral list.
This situation highlights the ongoing challenges and scrutiny faced by public figures in electoral integrity, especially in the lead-up to elections. As the truth unfolds, it’s crucial for the electoral process to maintain transparency and instill confidence among voters. Whether this case will lead to further investigations or resolutions remains to be seen, but it serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate voter identification in a democratic society.
