FromSoftware and Bandai Namco have unveiled “Elden Ring Nightreign,” a standalone cooperative spin-off that plunges players into a parallel universe relative to the acclaimed 2022 title, Elden Ring. This new game was introduced through its first trailer at The Game Awards 2024.
“Elden Ring Nightreign” enables players to collaborate with two partners in a condensed version of the Limgrave area from the original game. Each session generates randomized enemies and structures, adding a unique twist to every gameplay experience. Players will need to defeat camps of foes and gather stronger weapons to prepare for a boss battle that occurs at the end of in-game nights. Surviving for three in-game days leads players to face one of eight significant bosses.
The game is designed to be accessible for both veterans and newcomers, featuring eight unique characters, each equipped with special skills and ultimate abilities. While primarily an online session-based RPG for three players, the game will also support solo play.
The project is being directed by Junya Ishizaki, a first-time game director, although he has extensive experience in the Soulslike genre, having been part of FromSoftware since 2011. Ishizaki has previously worked on acclaimed titles like “Dark Souls” and “Bloodborne.” Speaking about his vision for “Nightreign,” he expressed a desire to experiment with fresh ideas while remaining true to the distinct style that FromSoftware is known for. He highlighted his passion for cooperative multiplayer experiences as a driving force behind the development.
Players have had the chance to try out an early version of “Elden Ring Nightreign,” and feedback has been positive, describing the game as transforming the cautious gameplay of the original into a fast-paced, action-oriented experience.
“Elden Ring Nightreign” is set to launch in 2025 and will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
