Education Ministry Tightens Acting Allowance Payments After Ghost Employee Concerns

Education Ministry Tackles Delayed Allowances and Staffing Gaps

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro recently addressed concerns regarding delays in disbursing acting allowances for both teachers and non-teaching staff. These delays have raised alarm among educators, with Opposition Member of Parliament Hem Chand highlighting the negative effects on staff morale and productivity, noting that some individuals have gone months without receiving their due allowances.

Radrodro clarified that the disbursement process involves rigorous verification procedures to ensure that funds are allocated correctly to qualified recipients. He acknowledged the previous challenges posed by payments mistakenly made to “ghost employees,” emphasizing the importance of preventing such occurrences in the future. “The allowance has been paid. For those that have not received their allowance, there is a process that needs to be followed. We have to ensure that the allowance has been paid to the right person,” he stated.

Furthermore, the Minister discussed the ongoing issues related to acting positions within the Ministry of Education. He noted that initiatives are underway to confirm these positions. However, with a notable trend of staff migration towards better opportunities, it has become increasingly vital to advertise and fill vacant roles in line with the Organizational Management and Reporting System (OMRS) protocols.

Despite these challenges, Radrodro reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to addressing staff concerns and improving working conditions. By prioritizing these issues, the Ministry aims to foster a more effective and supportive environment for both educators and non-teaching personnel, which could ultimately enhance productivity and bolster morale throughout the education sector.
