The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is set to return this year from August 14-20, 2025, with exciting developments including the reopening of the Filmhouse and a new pop-up venue located at the Hawthornden Theatre within the National Galleries of Scotland. Other venues will include the Cameo and Vue Omni, enhancing the festival experience for audiences and filmmakers alike.
The industry and press activities will take place at Tollcross Central Hall, which will also host several “In Conversation” events, providing a platform for insightful discussions and networking opportunities among industry professionals.
Paul Ridd, the CEO and Festival Director, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the newly reopened Filmhouse and Vue Cinema, emphasizing the festival’s commitment to spotlighting new film talent and engaging various audiences—from local community members to international media. “These new venues bring both excitement and a deep connection to our heritage in Edinburgh,” Ridd noted. He also highlighted the festival’s intention to create a vibrant hub at Tollcross Central Hall and transform the National Galleries into a state-of-the-art screening venue with a diverse program of film screenings and events.
Ridd is supported by a distinguished board, including Chair Andrew Macdonald, known for his work on the acclaimed film Trainspotting, and Vice Chair Amy Jackson, producer of the award-winning film Aftersun. This leadership aims to ensure that EIFF remains a prominent showcase for independent filmmaking talent.
The complete festival program will be unveiled on July 2 at 4 PM, paving the way for a week filled with cinematic celebration.
This year’s festival promises renewed excitement and engagement, building on the legacy of EIFF while embracing contemporary filmmaking. With its rich program and the inclusion of revitalized venues, the festival is positioned to thrive and inspire both filmmakers and audiences in the heart of Edinburgh.
