The Eden Prairie High School boys soccer team achieved a 1-0 victory over Shakopee on Saturday afternoon at Aerie Stadium, celebrating their home opener and improving their season record to 2-0-0. Senior captain and forward Nam Tran netted the only goal of the match with 4:25 left in the first half. The Eagles’ defense, led by senior captain and goalkeeper Nathan Louwagie, effectively neutralized Shakopee’s offense, earning Louwagie his second consecutive shutout. Earlier in the week, Eden Prairie secured a 3-0 win against St. Louis Park in their season opener.
Looking ahead, Eden Prairie will visit Buffalo (2-0-0) for a game set to start at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
In parallel, the Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team also celebrated a successful home opener, defeating Shakopee 3-2 on Saturday at Aerie Stadium, bringing their record to 2-0-0. New head coach Jorge Oconitrillo remarked on the challenging conditions of the match, affected by the sun, heat, and humidity. The first half ended scoreless, but the second half saw five goals scored after clouds rolled in.
Shakopee struck first in the second half, but senior defender Gabriella Lainhart quickly leveled the score at 1-1. Senior forward Emily Langfield then put Eden Prairie ahead 2-1 with 25:11 on the clock, only for Shakopee to respond almost immediately to tie the game at 2-2. Junior captain and defender Leah Gschwendtner clinched the win with a powerful 25-yard shot with 11:16 remaining, finding the back of the net past the Shakopee goalkeeper.
Eden Prairie had previously secured a 1-0 away win against Blaine in their season opener earlier in the week.
Next up, the girls team will also play at Buffalo (2-0-0) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
