The Eden Prairie High School boys soccer team secured a 1-0 victory against Shakopee on Saturday afternoon at Aerie Stadium, marking their home opener and improving their season record to 2-0-0. Senior captain and striker Nam Tran netted the only goal of the match with 4:25 left in the first half. Leader of the defense, senior captain Nathan Louwagie, played a key role in shutting down Shakopee’s offense, achieving back-to-back shutouts after the Eagles also defeated St. Louis Park 3-0 in their season opener on Thursday night.
Eden Prairie’s next challenge will be against the Buffalo Bison (2-0-0) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
Meanwhile, the Eden Prairie High School girls soccer team also celebrated a successful home opener, escalating to a record of 2-0-0 with a 3-2 win over Shakopee on Saturday afternoon. New head coach Jorge Oconitrillo acknowledged the impact of weather conditions, with the first half ending in a scoreless tie before five goals were scored in the second half. Shakopee struck first early in the second half, but senior defender Gabriella Lainhart quickly equalized for Eden Prairie. Senior forward Emily Langfield then put the Eagles ahead 2-1, only for Shakopee to tie it again shortly after. Junior captain Leah Gschwendtner clinched the victory with a powerful 25-yard shot with 11:16 remaining.
Eden Prairie girls soccer previously won their season opener against Blaine 1-0 on Thursday night. Their next game is also against the Buffalo Bison (2-0-0) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
