The Eden Prairie High School boys soccer team achieved a 1-0 victory over Shakopee on Saturday afternoon at Aerie Stadium, marking their home opener and boosting their record to 2-0-0. Senior captain and striker Nam Tran netted the only goal of the match with 4:25 left in the first half.
The Eagles’ defense, led by senior captain and goalkeeper Nathan Louwagie, effectively neutralized Shakopee’s offense, resulting in consecutive shutouts for Louwagie. Previously, the team secured a 3-0 win against St. Louis Park in their season opener on Thursday.
Looking ahead, Eden Prairie is set to face Buffalo (2-0-0) in an away game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
Meanwhile, the Eden Prairie girls soccer team also celebrated a successful home opener, defeating Shakopee 3-2 on the same afternoon at Aerie Stadium, improving their record to 2-0-0. New head coach Jorge Oconitrillo commented on the match’s challenging conditions, including the sun, heat, and humidity. The first half ended scoreless under bright sun, but the second half saw five goals following a change in weather.
Shakopee started strong in the second half, but senior defender Gabriella Lainhart quickly equalized for the Eagles. Senior forward Emily Langfield then put Eden Prairie ahead 2-1 with 25:11 remaining, only for Shakopee to level the score soon after at 2-2.
Junior captain Leah Gschwendtner secured the win for the Eagles with a powerful 25-yard shot that found the back of the net with 11:16 remaining in the match.
Eden Prairie had previously won their season opener against Blaine, securing a 1-0 victory in an away game on Thursday. Their next match will be against Buffalo (2-0-0) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27.
