The Eden Prairie High School boys soccer team achieved a 1-0 victory over Shakopee on Saturday afternoon at Aerie Stadium, celebrating their home opener and improving their season record to 2-0-0. Senior captain and striker Nam Tran netted the only goal of the match with 4:25 left in the first half. Meanwhile, the Eagles’ defense, led by senior captain Nathan Louwagie, effectively neutralized Shakopee’s offense, resulting in consecutive shutouts for Louwagie. Eden Prairie had previously triumphed over St. Louis Park with a 3-0 win in their season opener on Thursday.
Looking ahead, Eden Prairie will face Buffalo (2-0-0) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
In girls soccer, the Eden Prairie team also celebrated a successful home opener, winning 3-2 against Shakopee on Saturday afternoon at Aerie Stadium, which improved their record to 2-0-0. New head coach Jorge Oconitrillo remarked on the challenges presented by the sunny, hot, and humid conditions during the match. The first half ended without any goals, but the second half saw five goals scored after cloud cover appeared.
Shakopee took the lead in the early moments of the second half, but senior defender Gabriella Lainhart quickly leveled the score at 1-1. Eden Prairie senior forward Emily Langfield then put the Eagles ahead 2-1 with 25:11 remaining. However, Shakopee answered back to tie the game at 2-2 shortly thereafter. Junior captain Leah Gschwendtner sealed the win with a powerful strike from 25 yards out, finding the back of the net with 11:16 left on the clock.
Eden Prairie had previously won their season opener against Blaine with a score of 1-0 on Thursday night.
Next up, the girls team will also travel to Buffalo (2-0-0) for a match at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
