Eddie Murphy’s Heartwarming Memory from the Set of “Dreamgirls”

Eddie Murphy recently reminisced about his experiences filming “Dreamgirls,” which premiered in December 2006, alongside co-stars Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson. During an interview on “360 With Speedy,” Murphy recounted a touching moment he witnessed between the two talented singers on set.

Reflecting on his time making the film, Murphy shared that he was undergoing personal challenges at that time, as he was in the midst of a divorce. Despite being somewhat disconnected from the filming experience, he vividly remembered an incident between Beyoncé and Hudson that showcased their camaraderie.

Murphy recounted how, during a break between shots, he noticed Hudson, who was relatively new to the entertainment industry, dealing with dry skin on her fingers. He observed that Beyoncé quickly stepped in, offering support by saying, “Ooh girl, don’t do that. I’ll get you some cream.” This small yet meaningful interaction highlighted the warmth and mentorship Beyoncé extended to her fellow actress.

In “Dreamgirls,” which is based on a notable 1981 Broadway musical, the story centers around the ambitions and rivalries among a trio of singers. The film not only featured Murphy, Beyoncé, and Hudson but also included performances from notable actors like Jamie Foxx and Danny Glover. Hudson’s impressive portrayal of Effie White earned her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 79th Academy Awards in 2007, contributing to the film’s total of eight Oscar nominations that year.

This heartwarming anecdote reflects the bonds formed during the making of the film and underscores the supportive environment that can exist even amid competition within the industry. It’s a reminder that kindness and mentorship can flourish alongside ambition in the world of entertainment.
