Eddie Hall, the retired strongman who clinched the 2017 World’s Strongest Man title, is currently in negotiations for a highly anticipated bout with former Bellator MMA welterweight Dillon Danis. The fight, which has been the subject of talks for some time, could occur in late spring or early summer, although specifics regarding which promotion will host the event are yet to be revealed.
In an interview, Hall shared his thoughts on the matchup, highlighting Danis’s credentials and notoriety within the combat sports community. “I’m in talks at the minute with a few federations about fighting Dillon Danis, who is world-renowned,” Hall stated. “He’s quite a badass. He’s had a lot of fights, and you’ve seen him fight on Misfits. He’s a bit of a ‘love him or hate him’ character.”
Interestingly, Hall’s weight advantage is significant, as he outweighs Danis by nearly 200 pounds. However, the former strongman explained the process he must undertake to make the matchup fairer. “At face value, it looks very unfair because he weighs 80kg and I weigh 165kg,” Hall said. “From what I gather, he walks around close to 100kg, and as part of the stipulation, I’ve got to come down to under 300 pounds, which is 135kg. So come fight time, there will only be around a 35kg difference.”
Despite the considerable weight difference, Hall remains cautious, acknowledging Danis’s experience and abilities. “It’s going to be five-minute rounds. I have to give him every advantage because I’ve got the biggest advantage, which is size and strength,” he commented. Hall also expressed uncertainty about his weight loss journey, admitting he hasn’t weighed 300 pounds since he was 21. “If we are to get the deal done by February, it gives me just over three months,” he remarked.
The potential showdown between Hall and Danis is generating excitement in the combat sports world, combining Hall’s strongman pedigree with Danis’s grappling skills, promising an intriguing clash of styles. Fans are eagerly awaiting further developments as negotiations progress.
