A chain of earthquakes rattled the East Bay region on Sunday morning, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The series began at 9:38 a.m. when a magnitude 3.8 earthquake struck near Summerwood Loop and Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon. This initial tremor was followed by three additional quakes in quick succession, all occurring within a one-mile radius, registered at magnitudes 3.7, 3.0, and 2.9.

Residents across San Ramon and Dublin experienced light shaking, while those in nearby Danville and Pleasanton felt weaker tremors, according to reports from the Did You Feel It? initiative. A fifth earthquake of magnitude 2.5 was detected shortly before 10:20 a.m., occurring less than half a mile from the location of the first quake.

Simultaneously, another quake measuring 2.8 was recorded approximately 14 miles west of Patterson, about 66 miles south of San Ramon. The seismic activity did not cease there. At 10:42 a.m., San Ramon experienced a sixth earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 near the same vicinity as earlier quakes, followed almost immediately by a seventh quake measuring 3.0.

The seismic events continued with an eighth earthquake hitting San Ramon shortly before noon, registering at a magnitude of 3.0. This notable activity underscores the region’s seismic volatility but also highlights the community’s resilience and preparedness in responding to such natural phenomena. The rapid succession of these quakes serves as a reminder of the importance of earthquake readiness for residents in earthquake-prone areas.
