The ACLU of Wisconsin has announced that in-person absentee voting will commence tomorrow in most areas of the state and will be available until Sunday, November 3.
Voters are encouraged not to wait for Election Day and to seek out early voting polling places along with their hours. It is important for voters to remember to bring their identification. Additionally, individuals who are not registered to vote can do so at the polling places on most early voting days. However, to cast a vote on Saturday, November 2, or Sunday, November 3, they must be registered in advance. Voters can check their registration status at MyVote.WI.gov.
New early voting locations have been established following advocacy efforts from a coalition of community organizations focused on protecting voting rights. The Milwaukee Common Council approved early voting sites at 6001 W. Capitol Drive, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), and Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) campuses last year.
The UWM Zelazo Center (2419 E Kenwood Blvd.) will be open for early voting starting tomorrow through Friday, October 25, and then from Monday, October 28, to Thursday, October 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Friday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Another polling location will be available in Room S114 of the MATC S Building (700 W State St.) during weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This location will close early at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and will not be open on Sundays.
Deputy Advocacy Director James Stein expressed hopes that community members will take advantage of these new polling places to make their voices heard through their votes.
