Eagles Linebacker Nakobe Dean Faces Tough Road Ahead After Knee Injury

PHILADELPHIA – Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean suffered a serious knee injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, which has sidelined him for the remainder of the playoffs and could impact his availability for the start of next season.

Dean was unable to continue playing and had to be assisted off the field before being carted to the locker room. After the Eagles secured a 22-10 victory, Dean was seen with crutches and a large brace on his leg. On Monday, the NFL Network reported that he has a torn patellar tendon, which may also delay his return for the beginning of the 2025 season.

In the aftermath of the injury, Dean’s teammates expressed deep concern and support. Edge rusher Nolan Smith, who played with Dean at Georgia, reflected on the emotional impact of the injury, noting, “It hurt my heart.” As he rushed to Dean’s aid, he shared his immediate response: “I immediately closed my eyes and prayed right there.” Smith emphasized that for the players, football transcends the game; it’s about their livelihood and brotherhood.

Linebacker Oren Burks, who stepped in for Dean, praised his leadership throughout the season and acknowledged the void his absence will create. He stated, “We’re gonna miss him… but again, next man up.”

During the regular season, Dean had been a key contributor for the Eagles, finishing second on the team with 128 tackles. In the game against the Packers, he recorded six tackles, including two for losses. Selected as a third-round pick in 2022, Dean had been enjoying a breakout season after overcoming injury challenges in 2023, where he spent significant time on injured reserve due to foot injuries.

In addition to Dean’s injury, cornerback Darius Slay also experienced an elbow injury during the game but was able to return before halftime after making an impressive interception earlier in the match.

As the Eagles prepare for the upcoming challenges without Dean, their resilience and depth will be tested, but they remain hopeful for a solid postseason run.

The community’s thoughts are with Dean for a swift recovery, showcasing the strength of the team’s bond during difficult moments.
