The Philadelphia Eagles have made important roster moves ahead of their Week 10 matchup against the Green Bay Packers for Monday Night Football. Notably, EDGE Nolan Smith has been activated from the injured reserve list, while EDGE Patrick Johnson has been temporarily elevated from the practice squad.
Nolan Smith had his 21-day window to return from IR open on November 4 and has participated fully in practices leading up to this week’s game. His return is expected to bolster the Eagles’ pass rush, which has struggled of late. Smith is known not just for his pass-rushing capabilities but also for his strong performance as a run defender, making him a valuable asset on the field.
Meanwhile, Patrick Johnson’s elevation allows him to contribute to the Eagles’ defense one week after being released and then re-signed to the practice squad. Although Johnson was cut, he will still play a role in the game, especially on special teams, adding depth to the edge rusher position alongside Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Jaelan Phillips, Brandon Graham, and Joshua Uche.
Noteworthy is the fact that the Eagles did not activate cornerbacks Jakorian Bennett or Willie Lampkin from injured reserve. Bennett’s practice window opened on October 22, giving the team until November 12 to either activate him or end his season. Despite speculation that Bennett could return for the Packers game, the decision to keep him on IR likely paves the way for Adoree’ Jackson or Kelee Ringo to take on starting duties alongside Cooper DeJean. Similarly, Lampkin’s return from IR is also delayed, as the Eagles will have to wait until at least Week 11 to activate him, despite the need for additional interior offensive line depth with Cam Jurgens sidelined.
These roster adjustments highlight the team’s strategic planning as they prepare for a crucial game, demonstrating a commitment to both short-term excellence and long-term player health. As the Eagles gear up for the Packers matchup, the addition of Smith and the elevation of Johnson could provide the necessary spark to enhance their chances for victory.
