Dynamo Aim to Extend Streak Against Earthquakes in Thrilling MLS Clash!

HOUSTON (May 23, 2025) – The Houston Dynamo FC are set to return to Major League Soccer (MLS) action this Saturday, May 24, as they travel to PayPal Park on the West Coast to take on the San Jose Earthquakes. The match is scheduled for kickoff at 9:30 p.m. CT, and fans can catch the live broadcast via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Having recently secured back-to-back shutout victories, the Dynamo are on a positive run and maintain an undefeated streak against San Jose in their last three encounters. Historically, Houston boasts a 19-10-4 (WLD) record against the Earthquakes in regular-season play, and their last visit to PayPal Park resulted in a close 1-0 win, courtesy of a late goal from defender Daniel Steres.

The upcoming match also highlights a duel between two esteemed MLS coaches: Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen and Earthquakes head coach Bruce Arena, who are both among the top ten for all-time coaching wins in the league. Currently, Olsen ranks seventh with 146 victories, while Arena leads the pack with 267 wins.

The Dynamo come off a notable 2-0 road victory in the Texas Derby against FC Dallas, achieving their first road win of the season and their first victory at FC Dallas since 2011. Defender Griffin Dorsey and midfielder Jack McGlynn, who scored in the second half, were honored with spots on the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday. Additionally, goalkeeper Jonathan Bond played a pivotal role with three crucial saves, marking Houston’s sixth clean sheet of the 2025 season.

Prior to their strong performance against Dallas, Houston claimed another 2-0 victory against Minnesota United FC at Shell Energy Stadium, with goals from Pablo Ortiz and Felipe Andrade.

Adding to the excitement, McGlynn has been called up to the U.S. Men’s National Team (USNMT) training camp ahead of the June friendlies and the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, scheduled to begin on June 1 in Chicago.

On the other hand, the Earthquakes are on a six-match unbeaten streak, recently playing to a scoreless draw against the New England Revolution. Currently positioned eighth in the Western Conference with 18 points (5-6-3 record), San Jose’s attack is led by Cristian Arango and Josef Martinez, who have collectively netted 15 goals this season.

In their face-offs last season, Houston emerged victorious in both matches against San Jose, demonstrating their competitive edge with wins of 2-1 at Shell Energy Stadium and 1-0 on the road in San Jose.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond also holds a noteworthy history with the Earthquakes, having recorded an impressive 12 saves during a previous shutout victory while playing for the LA Galaxy in 2021. This performance stands as one of the top two saves in a single game in Galaxy’s history.

With both teams showing strong performances recently, fans are eagerly anticipating a competitive match that could further contribute to the unfolding narrative of the 2025 MLS season.
