Dylan Dreyer recently opened up about her separation from husband Brian Fichera during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Friends. The meteorologist, who announced their split in July, revealed that she and Fichera, married since 2012 and parents to three sons, had been separated for several months and are committed to maintaining a friendship for the sake of their children.
On the show, Dreyer reflected on the circumstances that led to their decision, sharing, “There’s something freeing, I think, for Brian and I where… whatever broke in a marriage — you could either fix it if you can and ideally you would… Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward.” She emphasized that they have accepted the situation, acknowledging that they now have a better relationship as friends than they did as a married couple.
Dreyer talked about how she and Fichera are prioritizing their children, discussing the evolving nature of their relationship with them. “I asked Calvin. I said, ‘What do you think a family is?’ And he said, ‘Well, it’s a group of people that love each other.’ And I said, ‘That’s what we are. And we will always be that for you,’” she recounted. Their focus remains on providing a loving environment for their boys, emphasizing that their happiness comes first.
Despite the heartbreak that comes with such a life change, Dreyer expressed a sense of acceptance and contentment. She mentioned leaning on her faith and speaking to her therapist about her feelings, revealing, “I feel okay every day. I come to work and I smile and it’s not fake.” This positive perspective reflects her commitment to healing and growth in this new chapter of her life.
As they navigate this new phase, Dreyer and Fichera continue to be actively involved in their children’s lives, ensuring that they remain surrounded by love and support. Their story serves as a reminder that relationships can evolve and that openness and communication are key to nurturing a healthy family dynamic post-separation.
