Dustin Rhodes has shared insights on his future in professional wrestling, revealing that he plans to conclude his career within the next two to three years. During a recent interview on AEW Close Up with Renee Paquette, alongside fellow wrestler Sammy Guevara, Rhodes expressed his desire for a final match akin to Sting’s farewell at AEW Revolution last year.
“I’ve thought in depth, and there’s a list of three guys I want to face,” Rhodes mentioned, although he chose to keep the names under wraps for now. He acknowledged his past tendencies to change timelines regarding his retirement but clarified that he is serious about a plan. “I would say a couple of years, two and a half, maybe,” he added, confidently stating that he believes Tony Khan will support his wish for a significant send-off.
He highlighted the respect and passion he feels from AEW, despite the ongoing debates about the wrestling industry’s different factions. “This is our sixth year. We are growing every single year, doing amazing, making huge amounts of money, and working all over the world. It is a place I want to be and finish my career,” Rhodes affirmed, showcasing his commitment to the company.
Rhodes, along with Guevara, is set to face The Hurt Syndicate for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at the upcoming AEW Double Or Nothing event. This match could serve as a pivotal moment in their careers, especially as Rhodes prepares to transition to the next chapter of his wrestling journey.
This projection of a planned retirement shows Rhodes’s dedication and thoughtfulness about how he wants his career to conclude, which is certainly an admirable perspective in a challenging industry. The optimism in his acknowledgment of AEW’s growth also reflects a positive narrative for the future of the wrestling promotion.
