Former Masters champion Patrick Reed claimed a significant victory on Sunday at the 2026 Dubai Desert Classic, but his post-tournament remarks added an intriguing twist to his career narrative. As the LIV Golf season approaches, Reed revealed that he has yet to sign a contract for the upcoming season, sparking speculation about his future in professional golf.

Reed secured his win at the Dubai event with a final-round score of 72, marking his fourth triumph on the DP World Tour and his most noteworthy win since the 2018 Masters. Prior to this victory, he last shone at the 2025 LIV Golf Dallas tournament, where he clinched a title in a dramatic four-man playoff. This latest success not only boosts his confidence but is also set to improve his world ranking; Reed entered this week ranked 44th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The most surprising revelation came during Reed’s post-match press conference, where he confirmed he has not yet finalized a deal with LIV Golf, despite finishing 7th in the 2025 individual standings. This admission is significant given that LIV Golf’s season opener is just three weeks away, scheduled for February in Riyadh.

“We’re still finalizing the [LIV Golf] contract. We’re not complete on that yet,” Reed stated, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding his participation in the upcoming season. Although he remains optimistic about competing in Riyadh, he clarified that he is currently not confirmed for the event.

Reed had previously commented on the challenges he faced regarding DP World Tour fines for participating in LIV events and expressed interest in potentially returning to the PGA Tour. However, his focus throughout the tournament remained strictly on his performance, managing to set aside the pressures of his contract status.

As Reed shifts his focus back to LIV talks in the coming days, this unexpected victory in Dubai may influence negotiations, enhancing his leverage as he explores his options for the 2026 season.
