Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo, receiving this honor on Thursday, July 31, marked by a heartfelt performance from a children’s choir. The 29-year-old British singer, known for her hit “Don’t Start Now,” was born to Kosovar Albanian parents in London and has consistently embraced her roots, actively supporting charities and causes within Kosovo.

The recognition was presented by Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani, who celebrated Lipa’s connection to her homeland with a warm greeting: “Welcome back home, Dua!” The president expressed gratitude for Lipa’s influence, stating, “Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. From the world’s biggest stages to the hearts of millions, she’s carried our story with strength, pride, and grace.” Osmani emphasized how Lipa has pushed boundaries and made history, while also inspiring others to honor their own identities and origins.

This latest accolade comes after Lipa was granted Albanian citizenship in November 2022, reinforcing her strong ties to the region. Her dedication to promoting her heritage highlights the positive impact artists can have in bringing cultural awareness and pride to their communities.

This celebration not only marks a significant moment for Lipa but also serves as a reminder of how individuals can bridge cultural divides and bring attention to their roots and the narratives that define them.
