A 17-year-old student with a provisional license was among the 14 drivers arrested for driving under the influence during a police enforcement operation conducted last night. The Police Traffic Enforcement Unit carried out a series of Random Breath Tests along the Namaka–Nadi corridor, where a total of 320 drivers were assessed, leading to 11 arrests for drunk driving.
At the same time, another traffic team performed a similar operation in the Suva area, testing 38 drivers and resulting in three arrests for impaired driving. The statistics from these operations reveal that among the 14 arrests made, five individuals were provisional license holders, three were public service vehicle drivers, and six held Group 2 licenses.
These coordinated operations reflect law enforcement’s ongoing dedication to promoting road safety and mitigating impaired driving. Authorities emphasize the critical need for responsible alcohol consumption and strict adherence to driving laws. The police continue to stress their commitment to ensuring safer roads for all users and encourage the community to practice responsible driving habits, aiming for a decrease in traffic-related incidents and fatalities. With continued efforts from both law enforcement and the public, the goal of a safer road environment becomes increasingly attainable.
