Drua to Name 2026 Captain After December Squad Reunion

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has confirmed that the announcement of their captain for the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season will take place only after the full squad reunites at the end of the year. Head Coach Glen Jackson stated the decision is based on the need to await the return of national team players, highlighting discussions surrounding leadership roles within the team.

Jackson emphasized that naming a captain prior to gathering the entire squad would not be fair to those currently on duty with the Flying Fijians. “It wouldn’t be fair to announce that without our full squad being together, so that will be later in December when that gets announced,” he said.

As the Drua progresses through their pre-season preparations in Nadi, the anticipation builds for what lies ahead. The team is in its third week of preparation, aiming to garner the strength and unity necessary for a competitive performance in the upcoming season.

This strategic approach to leadership mirrors the Drua’s previous season, where they showcased a vibrant mix of experienced players and emerging talent. In the recently unveiled 2025 squad, the inclusion of co-captains Tevita Ikanivere and Frank Lomani marked a historic step, reflecting the team’s dedication to strong leadership moving forward. Both captains expressed their pride in leading the team and their commitment to driving the Drua’s ambitions within the league.

With the Drua focusing on maintaining a solid core and integrating fresh talent, fans are encouraged by the promising trajectory of the team. The combination of established leadership and the nurturing of upcoming players sets a hopeful tone for Fiji’s rugby future. As they prepare for the 2026 season, there is a shared sense of excitement within the community regarding the potential successes awaiting the Drua.
