Swire Shipping Fijian Drua co-captain Frank Lomani expressed a positive outlook on his team’s performance following their recent defeat to the Waratahs in the Shop N Save Super Rugby clash in Sydney. Despite the loss, Lomani noted significant improvements in the Drua’s gameplay, especially in their initial approach to the match.

The Drua started strong, a contrast to their slow beginnings in previous games, but ultimately struggled to sustain their performance in the latter stages. Lomani stated, “We spoke about starting well. We obviously did that in the first 50 minutes. The boys just couldn’t hold on in the last 20. We’re a really good team, but we can’t afford to make mistakes. They’re going to count us; we’re just playing in their hands.” This reflects the Drua’s ongoing evolution as they learn to manage the pressures of high-level rugby.

He further commented on the team’s youthful composition, emphasizing the developmental challenges they face as they work on tactical refinements such as kicking strategies and set-piece execution. Lomani believes that the experiences gained from these matches will bolster the team as the season progresses. “One positive about us is that we have a lot of young boys coming up. It’s good to see them putting their hands up during these kinds of matchups,” he noted. The emergence of young talent provides an encouraging glimpse into the Drua’s future potential.

Looking ahead, the Drua are gearing up for their next match against the Hurricanes at their home ground in Lautoka. The team’s dedication to improvement and the promise shown by their younger players signal hopeful prospects for the Drua and their supporters, hinting at an exciting future for the squad.
