The Fijian Drua Academy has recently gathered Fiji’s most promising young rugby players to prepare for the under-16 and under-17 development squads for next year. After months of intensive scouting during the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby competitions, over 50 players from each group have been selected to take part in this program. These athletes will undergo various phases, including medical evaluations, strength and conditioning assessments, physical testing, and technical coaching before final selections are made.
The Fijian Drua Academy, which was officially launched last year, is predominantly led by Ben Takubu. He notes the expansion of the program this year, as it includes both the recruitment of new under-16 talents and the introduction of under-17 players for the first time. From an initial pool of over 250 players, 56 under-16s and 58 under-17s have advanced to the next stage. These numbers will eventually be reduced to 30 players in each age group, who will then receive contracts under the 2025–2026 Drua Academy Program.
