A 53-year-old man from Liverpool, Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, has been charged with seven serious offences following an alarming incident during the city’s Premier League title parade on Monday that left dozens injured. Doyle, who is accused of being the driver of the vehicle that collided with pedestrians, faces multiple charges including:
– Two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
– Two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
– Two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
– One count of dangerous driving
He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on May 30.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has stated that the charges will be reviewed as more information emerges from the ongoing investigation. Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, Sarah Hammond, mentioned that investigators are currently working through a large volume of evidence, including video footage and witness statements, to ensure that all victims receive the justice they deserve.
Merseyside Police’s Assistant Chief Constable, Jenny Sims, expressed the community’s shock and sadness over the incident and reassured that detectives are diligently pursuing the facts. A total of 79 injuries have been confirmed, with over 50 individuals treated at various hospitals, and seven remaining hospitalized but in stable condition as of Wednesday.
