In a thrilling finale at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, the National Team was narrowly defeated by the American Team, ending the game 22-19 in dramatic fashion. Memphis quarterback Seth Hanigan successfully connected with TCU wide receiver Jack Bech in the back of the endzone as time expired, clinching a last-minute victory for the American side.
The game began with a strong start from the National Team, featuring a touchdown from Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon, who completed a halfback toss pass to Iowa State’s Jayden Higgins. This was followed by Miami [FL] tight end Elijah Arroyo’s conversion catch, placing the score at 8-0 early on. The American Team responded with a rushing touchdown from Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart, who later threw a conversion pass to Arkansas’ Issac TeSlaa, equalizing the score at 8-8.
As the game progressed, the National Team regained the lead in the third quarter thanks to a 39-yard field goal from Florida State kicker Ryan Fitzgerald. The fourth quarter saw a shift in momentum, as the National Team extended their lead to 19-8 through a touchdown pass from Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough to Virginia wide receiver Da’Quan Felton. However, the American Team rallied back, scoring 14 points in the final minutes, ultimately sealing their comeback victory.
Jack Bech’s performance earned him the title of game MVP, as he secured six receptions totaling 68 yards, including the critical touchdown that finalized the score.
Notably, the Mid-American Conference was represented by only two players on the National Team: Toledo defensive lineman Darius Alexander and Bowling Green tight end Harold Fannin Jr., both of whom were recognized for their impactful performances. Fannin led his team in receiving with four catches for 25 yards and was instrumental in the offensive strategy, while Alexander showcased his defensive skills with multiple tackles and quarterback pressures.
As the Senior Bowl wraps up, attention now turns to the NFL Scouting Combine, where talent from the event will continue to be evaluated. Currently, only Harold Fannin Jr. from the MAC has received an invitation, while Alexander, Maxen Hook, and Bilhal Kone are expected to showcase their skills at their respective Pro Days.
This Senior Bowl performance reflects not just the competitive spirit of the players, but also highlights the significant potential athletes from the MAC bring to the professional football stage, making it an event of great interest for scouts and fans alike.
