Dragons and Vikings Reimagined: The Live-Action “How to Train Your Dragon” Teaser is Here!

Universal Pictures has released a teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the beloved animated film “How to Train Your Dragon,” which is set to hit theaters on June 13, 2025. Directed by Dean DeBlois, who has long been involved with the franchise, the new film is a shot-for-shot remake of the 2010 DreamWorks Animation classic.

The story follows Hiccup, portrayed by Mason Thames, a young Viking torn between his family’s expectations and his compassion for dragons. The trailer highlights this conflict, with Hiccup expressing his reluctance to hunt dragons to his father, Stoick the Vast, played by Gerard Butler, who reprises his role from the animated series.

The cast also features Nico Parker as Astrid, alongside actors such as Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, and Ruth Codd, among others. This adaptation is being produced by DeBlois, Marc Platt, and Adam Siegel.

The “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise has been highly acclaimed, earning four Oscar nominations and generating over $1.6 billion globally at the box office. The initial animated film led to two sequels, with the latest installment, “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” released in 2019, along with multiple short films and television series.

Mason Thames, known for his work in “The Black Phone” and “Incoming,” brings a fresh perspective to the role originally voiced by Jay Baruchel in the animated versions.

With its rich storytelling and well-loved characters, the upcoming live-action film holds the promise of captivating both new audiences and devoted fans of the original series. This new adaptation could potentially introduce the powerful themes of friendship and courage to a broader audience, reinforcing the timeless message that understanding and compassion are stronger than conflict.

As anticipation builds for this reimagining, fans can look forward to experiencing the magical world of dragons and Vikings once more.
