Romeo Doubs has been a starter in all four games this season and has logged the most playing time among wide receivers for the Green Bay Packers. However, he seems dissatisfied with his role in the offense.
Doubs has missed the last two practices for what the team has termed personal reasons and is listed as doubtful for the upcoming game on Sunday. According to reports, his absence stems from frustration regarding his number of opportunities in the passing game.
This season, Doubs has been targeted 20 times, which is a slight decrease compared to last year. This drop can largely be attributed to the injury of starting quarterback Jordan Love, which forced the Packers to adjust their offensive strategy to accommodate newcomer Malik Willis, who is still learning the playbook. In the two games where Love was healthy, Doubs had seven targets in the first week and eight in the fourth week, indicating he received more consistent looks from Love compared to last season.
If Doubs is seeking more targets, he would have likely seen an increase in opportunities against the Los Angeles Rams, especially since fellow starting wide receiver Christian Watson is doubtful due to an ankle injury. It’s possible that after Watson exited last week’s game against the Vikings, Doubs felt sidelined as Love began throwing to receiver Dontayvion Wicks more frequently. However, missing practice is not an effective way to address these concerns.
As the situation stands, it seems the Packers are facing a dilemma, and Doubs will likely be absent while his undermanned team attempts to secure a victory over the Rams without him.
