Double Payments on the Way for Social Security Recipients This November!

Some recipients of Social Security may receive an unexpected benefit this November: an additional check.

For those who receive Social Security, this occurrence is not unusual and can often be tracked on the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) payment schedule.

Due to a unique calendar situation, beneficiaries who also receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will be issued three checks in November. This includes two SSI payments along with their regular monthly Social Security check, which is designated for individuals aged 62 and older.

It’s important to note, however, that SSI recipients will not receive a check in December. A similar pattern was observed in August, where recipients received two checks but missed out on an SSI payment in September.

The reason for the double payment in November stems from when SSI checks are typically distributed. SSI benefits, which provide additional financial support for individuals with limited income and resources, are paid on the first business day of each month. Therefore, SSI recipients will receive their payment for November on November 1. However, since December 1 lands on a Sunday this year, the December payment will be processed on Friday, November 29, according to the SSA’s calendar.

Looking ahead to 2025, the SSA has updated their calendar to reflect similar situations. For example, SSI recipients will receive their January 2025 payment on December 31, 2024, and their February payment on January 31, 2025. As a result, they will not receive payment in March. Additionally, in May 2025, another dual payment will occur, followed by a month without payment in June.

SSI is designed to support individuals aged 65 or older, blind individuals, or those with qualifying disabilities—this includes children—who have limited income and resources. Generally, SSI is available for adults earning less than $1,971 from work each month. A new streamlined application process for SSI benefits is expected to be introduced later this year.

For those looking to budget, the Social Security Administration provides a payment schedule for the month of November:

– Wednesday, November 13: Payments for those with birth dates between the 1st and 10th.
– Wednesday, November 20: Payments for those with birth dates between the 11th and 20th.
– Wednesday, November 27: Payments for those with birth dates between the 21st and 31st.
