Social Security recipients usually receive one check each month, but the 2024 payment schedule indicates that some recipients will receive two or even three checks in November.
Those who are set to receive two payments in November are the individuals on Supplemental Security Income (SSI). This financial support is provided to disabled individuals and older adults with minimal income or resources, and some recipients also receive regular Social Security benefits.
In November 2024, SSI beneficiaries will see two payments. SSI payments are customarily distributed on the first of the month, but when that date falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are made on the last business day prior. Since December 1 falls on a Sunday, SSI recipients will receive their payment on November 29 instead of the first. Therefore, individuals receiving SSI will have payments processed on both November 1 and November 29.
Additionally, certain beneficiaries who receive both SSI and Social Security payments, or who filed for Social Security before May 1997, will receive three checks in November. Typically, Social Security payments are issued on the third of each month. However, since November 3 is a Sunday, those payments will be moved to November 1, resulting in a total of three payments for individuals receiving SSI.
Other Social Security recipients can expect their payments to be made according to the usual schedule. Individuals born between the 1st and the 10th of the month will receive their Social Security check on November 13. Those with birthdays from the 11th to the 20th can expect payment on November 20, and payments for individuals born between the 21st and 31st will arrive on November 27.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Social Security Administration plans to adjust payment dates to accommodate holidays and weekends. Additionally, the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Social Security in 2025 will be 2.5%, leading to an increase of $49 for the average retiree. This will raise the average monthly check from $1,927 to $1,976.
