Prominent Nadi lawyer and community leader Dorsami Naidu has officially aligned himself with the Unity Fiji political party, opting against his initial intention to establish a separate political movement. Naidu’s decision stems from his conviction that Fiji’s future should prioritize unity over political division.
Reflecting on his choice, Naidu stated, “Creating another political party would only serve to further splinter the voices and efforts of our people.” He expressed a desire to see the community come together for the nation’s advancement, asserting that by joining Unity Fiji, he could contribute to a party whose principles align with this essential vision.
With a lifelong career in law, Naidu emphasized his commitment to upholding legal standards and safeguarding the Constitution. He pointed out the need for reforms to occur through democratic and transparent processes that consider the perspectives of all citizens, not merely those of a vocal minority. Naidu also underscored the necessity of maintaining a clear separation between religion and politics.
Addressing pressing social issues, Naidu highlighted the alarming rise in drug-related problems, particularly methamphetamine, which he links to an increase in HIV cases. He called for an urgent and comprehensive national strategy to confront this challenge. Regarding economic matters, he stressed the importance of creating sustainable job opportunities and ensuring competitive wages to mitigate the ongoing brain drain affecting the nation.
Moreover, Naidu identified vast potential in Fiji’s agriculture, marine, and forestry sectors, emphasizing the need to develop skills among the population to leverage these resources effectively. He advocated for significant reforms in the healthcare system, asserting that no Fijian should have to engage in public fundraising for necessary medical treatment abroad.
Naidu noted that Unity Fiji is dedicated to eliminating corruption and nepotism across all levels of government. He recognized the urgent need to tackle the issues faced by the youth, who often lack confidence in their future within the country. By joining Unity Fiji, he aims to utilize the platform to address these vital national concerns cohesively and purposefully, reinforcing a united vision for Fiji’s future.
