CLEVELAND, Ohio — Donovan Mitchell continues to showcase his deep-rooted connection with the University of Louisville, marking a new chapter in their relationship as he unveiled special edition Adidas uniforms for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams designed by him. This initiative makes Mitchell the first active player to put his personal brand, represented by the “Spida” logo, on his alma mater’s uniforms.

The men’s team will debut these custom jerseys on January 13 against Virginia, while the women’s team will sport them on January 25 against Boston College. Each uniform features a unique web-inspired graphic woven into the fabric and will be paired with the D.O.N. Issue 7 shoes. This collaboration highlights a bond that has been nurtured over the years, beyond Mitchell’s successful NBA career.

Since his athlete days at Louisville from 2015-2017, Mitchell has consistently supported the basketball program, supplying them with his signature shoes since 2019. Despite achieving six All-Star selections, he has remained dedicated to his roots, showcasing his commitment by sending boxes of shoes year after year, reinforcing his connection to the university.

Mitchell’s engagement with the program extends beyond just providing gear. Earlier this season, he made a noteworthy appearance at a Cardinals men’s basketball game against Kentucky despite his NBA commitments, demonstrating his genuine interest in the team’s progress.

During the summer, he has actively worked with Louisville players, conducting his own training camps and participating in on-court sessions that allow him to share his expertise. This past summer, he practiced alongside the team in a red-and-white jersey, imparting vital lessons on NBA-level preparation and demonstrating the discipline required for success in the sport.

Mitchell appreciates the importance of these moments, emphasizing that Louisville is the foundation of his basketball journey—where he cultivated his work ethic and competitive spirit. His return to this environment keeps him grounded while offering younger players a firsthand view of the standard they need to aspire to join the professional ranks.

Moreover, the uniform project is not just a branding endeavor for Mitchell; it reflects years of consistent involvement and care for the program. This historical collaboration symbolizes identity and continuity for Louisville and serves as a testament to Mitchell’s unwavering commitment to giving back to the institution that played a crucial role in shaping his career.

Through this initiative, Mitchell continues to embody the selfless spirit and gratitude towards his roots, ensuring that he remains a vital part of the Louisville basketball legacy, while also inspiring the next generation of athletes.
