Dolphins Trade Deadline Buzz: Phillips and Chubb Draw NFL Interest

The Miami Dolphins are in the spotlight as the trade deadline approaches, with a number of their players drawing trade interest, notably pass rushers Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb. According to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media, multiple teams have shown significant interest in acquiring these key defensive players, with the Philadelphia Eagles identified as having a particular interest in Phillips.

Vic Fangio, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, holds Phillips in high regard, likely due to their previous association in 2023, when Fangio served as Miami’s defensive coordinator. During that season, Phillips made an impressive impact with 6.5 sacks over just eight games before a serious Achilles injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Phillips, a first-round pick in 2021, is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, which carries a salary of $13.251 million. His potential trade could make a significant impact on the Dolphins’ defensive strategy moving forward.

In addition to Phillips, Bradley Chubb is another player drawing interest. The former fifth overall pick in the 2018 draft was traded to Miami from the Denver Broncos exactly three years ago. Chubb’s current base salary is relatively low at $1.255 million, but should he be traded before the deadline, the Dolphins would incur a substantial dead-money charge of $23.858 million in the following year. Despite some challenges this season, Chubb has managed to record four sacks in nine games, and his experience and ability could make him a valuable asset for interested teams.

As the deadline looms, the Dolphins face key decisions that could shape their defensive lineup and future roster construction. The interest in Phillips and Chubb signals their potential importance in the trade market, which could yield noteworthy changes for the team as they navigate the rest of the season.
