Dolphins Face Injury Challenges in Critical Showdown Against Colts

The Miami Dolphins (2-3) are set to return from their bye week as they aim to improve to a .500 record in their upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts (3-3) on Sunday.

Tyler Huntley is anticipated to start at quarterback again in place of the injured Tua Tagovailoa, who is expected to make a return this season. The Dolphins are dealing with multiple injuries, as running back De’Von Achane, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and safety Jevon Holland are all nursing injuries.

The Colts will also be missing a key player, with running back Jonathan Taylor out for the third consecutive game due to an ankle injury. However, quarterback Anthony Richardson, the 2023 NFL Draft’s No. 4 pick out of Florida, is expected to return after missing the previous two games with an oblique injury. If he cannot go, backup quarterback Joe Flacco has been effective, racking up 716 yards and seven touchdowns with only one interception in the last three weeks.

During the game, Matt Gay helped the Colts take the lead with a successful 33-yard field goal, making the score 16-10. The Dolphins faced pressure with no timeouts left and only 1:51 on the clock.

The Dolphins struggled on a fourth-quarter drive as Jason Sanders missed a 54-yard field goal attempt, leaving the score at 13-10 in favor of the Colts as they took over the ball with 5:14 remaining. Additionally, there were concerns for Dolphins kick returner Braxton Berrios, who suffered a leg injury and exited to the locker room.

In the third quarter, Tyler Huntley suffered a right shoulder injury and was ruled out, leading to Tim Boyle stepping in as the Dolphins’ new quarterback. The Colts took their first lead of the game when Matt Gay added a 22-yard field goal, putting Indianapolis ahead 13-10 with 8:41 left on the clock.

The Colts forced a turnover late in the third quarter, stripping fullback Alec Ingold for a fumble. The game stood tied at 10-10 at the end of the third quarter.

Earlier in the game, Tyler Goodson scored a rushing touchdown, marking his first professional touchdown, tying the score at 10-10. The Dolphins initially took the lead with a touchdown pass from Huntley to tight end Jonnu Smith.

As both teams prepared for the matchup, the Dolphins confirmed several inactives, including running back Jeff Wilson Jr., defensive back Jevon Holland, and linebacker Emmanuel Ogbah, while Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor continued to be sidelined.

The weather in Indianapolis is expected to be pleasant with a high of 75 degrees, and the game will be played indoors at Lucas Oil Stadium.
