Dolphins Edge Patriots in Nail-Biting Showdown

Miami Dolphins fullback Alec Ingold celebrated a pivotal 3-yard touchdown run with four minutes remaining in the game, leading Miami to a narrow 15-10 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Jason Sanders contributed significantly to the win with three field goals, compensating for the Dolphins’ special teams struggles.

The matchup featured a battle between two struggling NFL teams, filled with penalties and errors. Both teams managed only one touchdown, with Miami (2-3) taking the decisive lead when Ingold scored on his sole carry of the game.

Despite the setback, the Patriots (1-4) had two opportunities to regain the lead after failing a two-point conversion, but were thwarted. A replay overturned what was initially ruled a touchdown, and their final drive ended when Jacoby Brissett’s last-second pass to Hunter Henry was completed but left no time to stop the clock.

Tyler Huntley, making his second start as Miami’s quarterback, completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards, throwing one interception. Tyreek Hill led the Dolphins’ receiving corps with six catches for 69 yards, while running backs Jaylen Wright and Raheem Mostert added 86 and 80 rushing yards, respectively. The Dolphins were desperate for a win after losing their last three games while dealing with injuries to multiple quarterbacks.

For New England, running back Rhamondre Stevenson, who had a rough game, was benched for the start but later rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown after Christian Gonzalez’s interception set up a scoring opportunity. Brissett finished with 18 completions on 34 attempts for 160 yards.

The Patriots initially took the lead with a touchdown pass in the final minute, but that was nullified by a replay review. They regained possession but could not capitalize on it effectively.

Miami’s kicking game proved to be a mixed bag. Sanders started strong with a 54-yard field goal for the Dolphins’ first lead of the season but later missed a 41-yard attempt that hit the upright. A subsequent long-snap mishap ruined another attempt, and the Dolphins also suffered a blocked punt that fortunately did not lead to points for New England.

The first half was marred by poor clock management, with Miami unable to convert opportunities into points before punting the ball back to the Patriots.

In terms of injuries, the Dolphins lost running back De’Von Achane to a concussion and safety Jevon Holland to a hand injury during the game. Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made his season debut but did not record any catches.

Next, the Dolphins will have a week off before facing the Indianapolis Colts on October 20, while the Patriots will host the Houston Texans next Sunday.
