A top official at the Department of Justice (DOJ) has retracted a letter he issued to an FBI agent involved in the Sandy Hook Elementary School case, implying no investigation was intended against the agent. Ed Martin, a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, had initially reached out to FBI Special Agent William Aldenberg’s attorney, suggesting his involvement in the lawsuit against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was under scrutiny. The defamation lawsuit resulted in a significant $1.4 billion judgment against Jones, who had falsely claimed the 2012 massacre, which tragically claimed the lives of 20 first graders and six adults, was a hoax.
In his initial letter, Martin implied potential legal repercussions for Aldenberg and questioned whether the agent would financially benefit from the lawsuit, suggesting that there are criminal laws safeguarding citizens from government employees acting for personal gain.
