The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a trade on Monday, acquiring pitcher Will Klein from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league pitcher Joe Jacques. To accommodate this move, the team designated Chris Stratton for assignment while recalling Ryan Loutos from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioning Noah Davis.
Both Stratton and Davis played a role in relief during a recent game against the Yankees, each contributing two innings. Stratton, an in-season addition, also pitched an inning during a previous game. Klein, a 25-year-old right-hander, brings experience after pitching for the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics last season. However, he faced challenges, allowing nine runs and 12 hits in 7⅓ innings over eight games, resulting in a 7.17 ERA with Triple-A Tacoma this season.
Seattle designated Klein for assignment on Saturday, marking a quick turnover after his brief stint this year. The Dodgers found Klein attractive as a fresh pitching option, especially since Loutos has also been utilized frequently in recent games. Loutos was acquired from the Cardinals and has shown some resilience despite allowing runs in his previous appearances for the Dodgers.
Additionally, the Dodgers are hopeful for the return of Michael Kopech, who recently completed his rehab assignments. Kirby Yates, sidelined due to a hamstring injury, may also return by the weekend, adding depth to the Dodgers’ bullpen as they aim to improve their performance.
Jacques, the traded pitcher, had signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers last November and was part of their spring training roster. He struggled with a 6.04 ERA at Triple-A before the trade, having recorded three saves in 18 appearances.
This series of moves reflects the Dodgers’ strategic efforts to bolster their pitching staff as they navigate the challenges of the current season. With potential reinforcements on the way, fans can remain optimistic about the team’s trajectory as they seek to enhance their chances for success moving forward.
