Dodgers Make World Series Return: Ohtani’s Historic Debut Awaits!

The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to return to the World Series after a 10-5 victory against the New York Mets in Game 6 on Sunday night. This marks the Dodgers’ fourth trip to the World Series in eight years and their first appearance since their championship run in 2020. They will face the New York Yankees, who triumphed over the Cleveland Guardians in five games during the AL Championship Series. The opening game is scheduled for Friday night.

Tommy Edman earned the NLCS MVP title, contributing significantly with four RBIs in Game 6 and a total of 11 throughout the series against the Mets.

The game got off to a rocky start for the Dodgers as opener Michael Kopech had a shaky inning, allowing a run in the first. However, the Los Angeles pitchers, while not stellar, were able to outmatch the Mets’ pitching staff. A total of 14 pitchers took the mound during the game, with seven from each side, and the Dodgers’ strategy of using a bullpen game proved effective.

The Mets quickly took the lead in the first inning due to aggressive base running and an infield single from Pete Alonso, combined with a throwing error by the Dodgers. However, the Dodgers responded quickly, with Edman hitting a two-run double off Mets starter Sean Manaea. Manaea pitched only one more inning, and the Mets struggled to contain the Dodgers’ powerful offense after that.

In the third inning, Edman hit a two-run homer, followed by a two-run blast from Will Smith just three batters later. Shohei Ohtani added to the score with an RBI single in the sixth, while Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernández, and Enrique Hernández contributed with RBIs in the eighth inning.

This World Series will be a special occasion for Ohtani as it will mark his debut in the championship series after seven seasons in Major League Baseball and his first season with the Dodgers after signing a record 10-year, $700 million contract in the offseason.

Ohtani’s first World Series appearance will be against notable players like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto from the Yankees. It’s been 43 years since these two storied franchises last faced each other in the World Series, with the Dodgers prevailing in the 1981 matchup.

Both teams are expected to be well-prepared for the World Series opener on Friday at 7 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.
