Dodgers Edge Closer to World Series with 3-0 NLCS Lead Over Brewers

In a thrilling game on Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. Tommy Edman’s crucial tiebreaking single in the sixth inning helped propel the Dodgers closer to their goal, as they aim to become the first defending champions to reach the World Series since the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies.

The Dodgers are now just one win away from sweeping the series, with the backdrop of baseball history reminding fans that only one team, the 2004 Boston Red Sox, has ever overcome a 3-0 postseason deficit.

The game kicked off with Shohei Ohtani delivering a spectacular triple off Brewers’ pitcher Aaron Ashby, setting the stage for Mookie Betts to drive him home with a double, giving the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead. However, the Brewers quickly equalized in the second inning with a run from Jake Bauers’ RBI single.

Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow showcased a strong performance, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out eight batters over 5 2/3 innings. The crowd of 51,251 honored Glasnow with a standing ovation as he exited the game.

Rookie Jacob Misiorowski replaced Ashby and made a significant impact, striking out a Brewers postseason record of nine batters, although his fastball lost some steam towards the end of the game. Trouble struck for the Brewers in the sixth when Edman’s single lifted the Dodgers to a 2-1 advantage. Abner Uribe’s wild pickoff throw allowed Freddie Freeman to score, contributing to the Brewers’ challenges, as this marked the second consecutive game with an error from their closer.

The Dodgers’ bullpen proved effective, allowing only one hit in 3 1/3 innings, while Roki Sasaki closed the game with a perfect ninth for his third save of the postseason.

Despite having swept the Dodgers 6-0 in the regular season, Milwaukee has struggled in the postseason, losing their last ten road games dating back to 2018. Game 4 promises to be pivotal, as the Dodgers look to clinch the series and further cement their standing in this year’s playoffs.
