Dodgers Aim for All-Star History: Can They Field Eight Players?

The Los Angeles Dodgers are poised for a strong showing in the upcoming MLB All-Star Game, with voting set to resume on Monday at 9 a.m. PDT. The team is in a position to potentially field an unprecedented eight position players, having finalists at each infield position and two among the outfield group.

In the Phase 1 voting, which concluded earlier, standout players like Shohei Ohtani, who secured an automatic starting spot as the designated hitter, led with an impressive 3,967,668 votes. Alongside him, catcher Will Smith and first baseman Freddie Freeman are also leading their respective positions. Meanwhile, second baseman Tommy Edman, shortstop Mookie Betts, and third baseman Max Muncy are in the running as well, finishing second in their categories. Outfielders Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages ranked second and fifth in the voting.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed pride in the team’s performance as they currently lead the National League. “As it stands now, we’re the best team in the National League, so we should have the most All-Star voting for the team,” he said. The team hopes to surpass the historic record of five players from a single team starting the All-Star Game, a feat achieved by notable franchises in the past.

On the American League side, Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels is also a finalist for one of the two available outfield spots, competing alongside other talented players.

Voting can be conducted online via MLB.com and various team websites until the deadline of Wednesday at 9 a.m. PDT, with results announced later on ESPN.

This year’s All-Star Game promises to highlight the best talent in baseball, with the Dodgers setting their sights on a significant representation. Fans can look forward to an exciting event as it approaches.
