The HFC Bank Stadium was alive with excitement yesterday as Dilkusha Methodist High School (DMHS) held its highly anticipated annual inter-house athletics competition. The event showcased an array of talent across both track and field disciplines, captivating the audience with intense rivalries among the school’s four houses.

Principal Satyendra Singh shared his enthusiasm for the day’s activities, highlighting the impressive turnout and the competitive spirit that filled the air. “There is fierce competition among the four houses, and it’s too early to say who will top the medal tally, but it’s clear the houses are neck and neck,” he remarked. Yaka House, known for being the champions for over five consecutive years, is eager to defend its title against a determined field.

DMHS has a storied legacy in athletics, particularly underscored by their last gold medal victory at the Fiji Finals in 2019. Singh expressed optimism for a strong comeback this year, stating, “We have some promising athletes, and after today’s events, we’ll identify who to groom for the NNN zone and the Coca-Cola Games.” He anticipates that around 10 to 15 athletes will represent the school in these upcoming challenges.

The school’s prowess spans various events including high jumps, sprints, and long jumps. Singh emphasized the importance of a comprehensive educational approach, balancing academic excellence with athletic achievements. “Our students are not just excelling in academics but also in sports like athletics, rugby, hockey, and netball,” he noted.

Moreover, he called on alumni and the community to support the athletes, encouraging parents and guardians to attend the events. “We encourage old scholars, parents, and guardians to come out in numbers and support Dilkusha Methodist High School. Our students display great discipline and sportsmanship both on and off the field,” Singh added.

With strong community support and a wealth of emerging talent, DMHS is gearing up for an exhilarating season, eager to not only enhance their medal tally but also to uphold their esteemed legacy at the Fiji Finals. This competition fosters unity and school spirit, strengthening the bonds among students, alumni, and supporters, making it a celebration of both athletic capability and community togetherness.
