DJI has unveiled the Osmo Nano, its smallest action camera yet, which embodies cutting-edge technology in a compact design. Despite its size, the Osmo Nano boasts impressive specs, including a 1 / 1.3-inch sensor with 13.5 stops of dynamic range and capabilities of recording in 4K at 120fps. This matches the high standards set by DJI’s Osmo Action 5 Pro launched last year.
The Nano is designed to appeal to users craving portability without compromising on quality. It requires pairing with its Multifunctional Vision Dock for additional features like a touchscreen and extended battery life. This aligns with DJI’s modular approach akin to products like the Insta360 Go Ultra.
While the Osmo Nano was globally launched on September 23, DJI will not immediately release it in the U.S., with plans to optimize their strategy in the region instead. However, it is available in other regions such as Canada, the UK, and parts of Europe, with prices varying slightly based on local markets. The camera starts at $309 USD for the 64GB version in Canada and reaches up to $339 USD for the 128GB version.
The modular design allows the Nano to be attached to its dock either way, facilitating the usage of its OLED preview screen for both selfies and regular shots. Weighing just 52 grams, the Nano is even lighter than DJI’s previous Action 2 model and the recently released Insta360 Go Ultra. With the dock, its total weight reaches only 124 grams, still lighter than the heavier Osmo Action 5 Pro.
Designed with versatility in mind, the Osmo Nano offers accessories such as a mount for hats or helmets. Battery life ranges from 55 minutes to over three hours, depending on the combination of resolution and use of the dock. It is also waterproof to a depth of 10 meters and IPX4 rated for splashing when the dock is used as a wireless remote.
Innovations in user interaction include wireless microphone connectivity and intuitive recording controls, which allow users to begin recording through gestures like patting the camera or nodding their head. Additionally, a pre-record option can capture footage just before a recording session commences, although it may slightly affect battery life.
DJI’s latest launch highlights its commitment to catering to tech-savvy consumers looking for lightweight, high-quality action cameras. By blending portability with advanced features, DJI continues to innovate in the competitive action camera market.
