Mahendra Gopal and Asish Chand showcased their golfing prowess at the recently concluded Diwali Open Golf Tournament held at the Ba Golf Club over the weekend. This event, which celebrated the memories of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gopal, was graciously sponsored by Anita Persaud and Tiffany.
Gopal emerged victorious in the Overall Nett category, delivering an exceptional performance with a score of 63. Meanwhile, Chand secured the Overall Gross title with a score of 74. The tournament featured intense competition, with Raven Kumar finishing as the Gross Runner-up at 77 and Yash Kumar achieving the Nett Runner-up position also with a score of 63, highlighting the event’s competitive spirit.
In the A Grade division, Ashwin Sharma led the pack with a score of 74, with Dinesh Narayan following closely at 75. Rohit Chandra and Kavitesh Sharma both recorded scores of 76, while Rajen Singh rounded out the top five with a score of 77. Damon Chen topped the B Grade with a net score of 70, closely pursued by Namal Kishar and Abdul Khan, who both finished with scores of 71. Eperama Bola and Adeel Khan secured places in the top five with scores of 72 and 73 respectively. The C Grade was highlighted by Harshil Sharma, who finished first with a score of 71, edging out Amitesh Maharaj.
Various awards were presented during the tournament. Joeli Dakunimata claimed the Nearest to the Pin on Hole 3/12, while Gopal took the same honor on Hole 7/16. Rohit Chandra received awards for the Second Best Shot on Hole 8/17 and Longest Drive on Hole 4/13, with Chand also winning the Longest Drive on Hole 9/18. In the ladies’ category, Jenny Sharma excelled by winning the Ladies Best Gross title with a remarkable score of 67.
Additionally, a Two-Men Ambrose event took place on Saturday, also sponsored by Persaud and Tiffany, which recognized the Gopal family’s legacy. Anaya Sanvi and Asish Chand took the top spot, followed closely by Christopher Daniel and Damon Chen in second place and Mahendra Gopal and Rohit Chandra in third.
The camaraderie and competitive spirit demonstrated throughout the tournament not only highlighted the skill within the local golfing community but also emphasized the significance of such events in promoting community engagement and sportsmanship.
