As Diwali approaches, Mahesh Syndicate is expanding its selection of firecrackers to include a variety of products suitable for all budgets. Customers can expect to find cakes, fountains, and an assortment of traditional sparklers and pops, as the company aims to enhance the festive spirit this season.
Vinay Kumar, the general manager of Mahesh Syndicate, noted that while the costs associated with fireworks have risen due to increased freight and compliance expenses, they are still providing options at various price points to accommodate consumers. He also reminded the public about the regulations surrounding the use of fireworks, which are generally restricted outside designated hours—except on Diwali day, when usage is allowed from 5 PM until midnight.
“Safety is of utmost importance, and we encourage everyone to use fireworks responsibly while ensuring that adults supervise children throughout the celebrations,” Mr. Kumar stated. “We are fortunate in Fiji to still be able to enjoy fireworks, unlike many other countries where such celebrations are restricted.”
Mahesh Syndicate will be open on Diwali day from 9 AM to 3 PM to cater to late shoppers, reinforcing their commitment to accessibility for customers preparing for the holiday.
This year’s Diwali celebrations come on the heels of ongoing dialogue about safety regulations surrounding fireworks in Fiji. The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has also reiterated the importance of adhering to safety guidelines to minimize risks during the festivities. Violations of these regulations can lead to penalties, but officials emphasize that with responsible practices, the joyous occasion can be enjoyed safely.
As the colorful festival unfolds, it represents a wonderful opportunity for community cohesion and cultural exchange, even as the public is reminded to prioritize safety alongside celebration. The spirit of Diwali invokes hope and joy, ensuring that this time remains a cherished occasion for all.
