Actress Sutton Foster has initiated divorce proceedings from her husband of ten years, screenwriter Ted Griffin, prompting speculation about a possible romantic relationship with Hugh Jackman, known for his role as Wolverine.
Foster filed for an uncontested divorce on October 22, following the recent sale of their historic Gilded Age estate in New York, which sold for $2 million. The “Younger” star had purchased the property in Tuxedo Park, NY, in 2021 for $1.6 million and had listed it for $2.2 million in December 2023.
The actress once described the seven-bedroom, five-bathroom home as “magical,” expressing her desire for it to be a place where her daughter, Emily, could make memories. Foster recalled that Griffin discovered the home during their search for a permanent residence outside the city, noting that it felt like their “forever home.”
Questions have arisen about whether the decision to sell the property foreshadowed their marital split, especially as rumors emerged around the same time regarding a romance between Foster and Jackman, who recently ended a 27-year marriage with Deborra-Lee Furness.
There have been multiple reports suggesting that the chemistry Foster and Jackman shared on stage during their collaboration in Broadway’s “The Music Man” transformed into a real-life relationship. This show ran from December 2021 to January 2023.
Interestingly, just months prior to joining the cast of “The Music Man,” Foster sold another property, a Los Angeles A-frame, for $1.5 million.
Foster’s New York home was designed with the help of Michael Ostrow, who also assisted with her former Los Angeles residence. The pair focused on adding warmth and character to the interiors through colorful wallpaper and unique decorative items.
The Tuxedo Park property, built in 1895, was originally designed by Gilded Age architect Bruce Price, who lived there with his family, including his daughter, author Emily Post.
In addition to her most recent estate and the Los Angeles property, Foster has owned a penthouse in Manhattan and a home in Greenwood Lake, NY. She purchased the lake house in 2010, years before marrying Griffin in 2014.
Foster has often cited her lake home as her retreat from the city, allowing her to recharge during her time off from performances.
News of her divorce comes about 13 months after Jackman announced his separation from Furness, with both sharing that they were moving on to pursue individual growth after their nearly three decades of marriage.
While neither Foster nor Jackman has publicly addressed the rumors surrounding their alleged relationship, insiders suggest they wish to maintain privacy regarding their connection. Sources claim that the couple is deeply in love and desires to keep their romance out of the spotlight.
